F-Series Still Number 1

With the 2007 over, it is time to see which models had the most sales. The Auto Channel reported that for the 31st straight year, the Ford F-Series is the best selling vehicle in the United States with sales reaching 796,039 units.  This just shows that there are still a lot of American consumers who buy large vehicles.

Here’s the list of the top twenty top selling vehicles last year.
1.    F-Series- 690,589
2.    Silverado-C/K Pickup- 618,257
3.    Camry -3,108
4.    Accord -92,231
5.    Corolla 371,390
6.    Ram P/U 358,295
7.    Civic 331,095
8.    Impala 311,128
9.    Altima 284,762
10.    CR-V 219,160
11.    Sierra 208,243
12.    Cobalt 200,620
13.    Tundra 196,555
14.    Prius 181,221
15.    Caravan 176,150
16.    Focus 173,213
17.    Odyssey 173,046
18.    RAV4 172,752
19.    Econoline/Club Wagon 168,722
20.    Escape 165,596

That list also shows that Japanese automakers are still eating into the market share of American automakers.  With the price of fuel steadily increasing, it is only obvious that buyers will go for smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles.  It just so happens that Japanese automakers have been making and manufacturing small vehicles with great fuel efficiency.

American automakers though are also making steps towards the development of green vehicles.  The Ford Escape Hybrid is the first hybrid SUV and is an example of how the automaker is seriously considering manufacturing green vehicles.  General Motors on the other hand will be soon offering the first full size SUVs with hybrid powertrains in the form of the Chevy Silverado Hybrid.  It is also interesting to note that no European made cars made it to the list.   That fact is not surprising though as we all know that for the most part, European cars are expensive and with the state of our economy, less consumers will be  able to afford them.
